O.H. Ivie Reservoir is starting to produce largemouth bass weighing over 10-lbs. The reservoir's large crappie numbers make for excellent fishing with many weighing in close to 2-lbs. White bass and catfish round out the gamefish species found here. The main structure in the lake is submerged timber, since much of the lake basin is flooded woodlands of
mesquite, oak, saltcedar and juniper trees. Pitching creature baits and carolina rigged worms into the trees and brush account for most of the bass action in the lake. Crappie can be caught suspended over brush, although fishing at night can be very productive for the larger slab crappie. White bass are mostly caught trolling crankbaits and spinners near the dam and along deeper drop-offs. Catfish can be caught anywhere in the lake, still fishing with worms, minnows or cutbait.
