The water temp on lake erie in buffalo n.y is 50 degrees. Big smallmouth are starting to move into the shallows. On may 9-10 ,big smallies were on the rocks in about 5 to 10 ft. Casting tubes ,and letting the tube come in contact with the rocks ,triggered most of the strikes . Fish in these areas were all solid mid four to three fish over six, and four in the mid five range. Also 12 to 17 ft . Smalies were on the move on these flats feeding on emerald shiners .casting gobys baits or drifting with live bait over the flats produced good numbers of solid four pounders . Deeper breaks were holding some fish in 20 to 32ft. These fish liked a verticle jig pattern ,useing tube jigs . Also all nice fish. As the temp rises . Fishing will get even better.
