numa marengo and his buddy greg from (south france) fished lake erie for the first time for some smallmouth bass. the sun was out and a nice west wind chop on the water . temp was at 65. green pumpkin & melon pepper prowler tube baits were the hot bait on the lake . fishing in 34 ft over a flat, with isolated rock piles is were most of the bigger smallmouth were boated , numa was casting and slowly jigging the tube bait back to the boat . numa had a smallmouth that tiped the scales at 6.14 lb .both numa and greg boated several fish in the low to mid five range . gregs big fish was 5.10. greg did more verticle jigging . both casting and jigging were the pattern for the day . these fish are staging in the deeper water . both pre and post spawn fish ,will move in and out off a deeper area that has shallow water close buy . the deeper water has isolated  rock piles . humminbirds new 3d  side veiw graph is the ticket for finding deep water structure . berkeley gulp also produced some nice fish . drop shotting olive and black leeches worked well . the canadion season opens next week . fishing in and around the rocky shore line will produce some nice smallies.
