Shell Beach Report
Fun weekend of fishing on
the Beach. On Saturday I had a fun group of guys from Jackson, MS, Brent McClure, Phillip Spencer, and Ben Boatright.
We headed down the foggy MRGO out into the Sound. We headed to a rig that I
fished the day before and the Sheepshead and I mean big ones were eating up on
dead shrimp on a jig head. Well they were still there and just as big and
hungry. It was fast and fun action as the guys were constantly grunting and groaning
fighting these hard fighting fish. With the box close to full we made a move to
another rig for some Reds where we kept 2 of them. Our next move was to look
for some Trout and the guys put some pretty Trout in the boat to top off the
box. These Trout were from 16”-22” and caught on Hybrid Minnows under a cork.
Fun day on the water with a fun group of guys. Total take home for the day was
50 Sheepshead, 16 Trout, 2 Reds, and 1 Drum.
On Sunday I had the pleasure
of fishing with Harold, Mark, and Matt Livingston, three generations of them.
They were also from the Jackson, MS area and this was going to be their second day of
fishing. They had a great day Saturday with another one of the King’s captains.
There was a little chop on the water as we hit the Sound, but the big
Sheepshead were hungry. The guys were filling up the box fast, but the seas
were picking up also. We had to call it a short day with the wind picking up
and some of the crew getting green. They had a good time and a short day was
fine with them since they had plenty of fish and a long drive ahead. Very nice
folks and they can not wait to get back down to Shell Beach for more of our great fishing and hospitality.
