Fort Lauderdale fishing outlook for April, 2009
Our favorite fishing month is here, and we are so looking forward to the many opportunities April holds. Dolphin, Sailfish, Swordfish, Wahoo, Kingfish, Amberjack, Cobia and full-grown Sharks. They will all be here so let’s go fishing.
Dorado- Fast moving groups and not too far offshore this early in the season. Stay alert for current edges and clean water on most days. As always, look hard for birds (some will be on smaller Tuna or Skippies). They can make the day but stay focused. They aren't always first on the scene
Sailfish-They will be available .Expect to see some fish that are much bigger than the Winter Sails.
Swordfish-We expect a strong month for these great fish. As always weather will influence this fishery.
Wahoo-Some real nice fish will be taken .Largest fish typically slightly deeper than the outside reef. Smaller ones offshore, but still some decent ones out there. Occasionally a really big fish taken offshore in the deeper water.
Amberjack- Good numbers all month. Best on wrecks in over 200 feet of water.
Kingfish- Should be here in good numbers thru the month.
Cobia-Occasional catch when wreck fishing and also when found on the surface in singles or small groups.
Sharks- Prime time for really big Hammerheads, some Makos and Threshers. Be quick getting you other species into the boat or you’ll end up with half a fish and the shark looking for more…
