Itchen River UK 1-8-10

Very healthy wild browns mostly half pound but three pound not uncommon. Very clear water bit weedy (Sight fishing) big hatchings of mayfly between April/May (takes on dry flies common) .
Salmon very rare.
Greyling same as brown trout.
Sea trout rare. (night fishing)
Very friendly locals. Exellent local guide well worth his fee. Historic Village was Roman capital during Roman rule. Great pubs along river banks through centre of town.
Wading in some areas.
Best flies Daddy long legs, Mayfly.
Daily or annual Salmon or trout licence as required for fishing any river throughout U.K Annual licence for trout approx £26. Immidiatly available at any post office. Is the only cost. Please catch and release (locals my get very upset)

I am of South African origin. Had good few days free fishing in Winchester. Fishing only permitted down left hand side through town centre. Fantasiclly friendly pubs along river side. Met local guide had exellent knoweledge and well worth his well priced fee (search google for Keith Dipper or check this.http://fishingcoach.blogsome.com/2008/04/22/fly-fishing-on-the-itchen/ ) All salmon are to be released as wild stocks are dieing out throughout U.K (and is against the law) Please release all fish caught as are wild breeding fish.
