When you turn 40 in Finland and your family and friends give you the option to choose a fishing trip of your choice, Olli said, Steelhead fishing. And boy did he get a trip! Landing many Steelhead on the single handed fly rod as well some nice varieties of fresh female Steelhead as well large red colored males. Here are a few of Olli’s Steelhead attached in the pics below.
His fishing partner Annti, a fishing freak, was not to be outdone and helped blow out the candles with a 25 lb Steelhead. This monster was lurking in a small BC river and Antti put the brakes on this bad boy, as you can see in the photo below, a record catch. Being a Tarpon on the fly expert, he was taken to task on the BC Steelhead and commented on the size of Steelhead we receive up here in the Great White North, not to mention the aggressive behavior once hooked.
I would have to say that this season as well the others all have a certain touch to them, and one I will never forget is this year’s events with Yassy. The guy with the funniest laugh and a very very big desire to catch his first Steelhead on the fly. Spending four days with us and hooking four fish the last two days and having them elude him made the man think about coming back to try again. When you think about it, again usually means the next year, not Yassy. A flight back home and a wash of the clothes and yes Yassy was back to try his luck for three more days on Steelhead action. The rivers were in great shape and Yassy produced some beautiful fish while with us for his second trip of the season. Landing at times three fish a day then out of the waders and back to Vancouver on the evening flight! Yassy you are after my own heart and we look forward to seeing you again.
Our latest guests for the long weekend were the McIsaac boys and we spent our time on the Douglas Channel Saltwater fishing. As the river is very high and unfishable we ventured out to the Halibut grounds and brought home a 35lb Halibut.
For guests wanting to book trips for this summer Salmon and Halibut trips please book early as we are filling up.
